Registering as a Guest Tattoo Artist

Anyone who visits Florida and wishes to work as a guest tattoo artist must register with the state Department of Health (DOH). If you are licensed, certified, or registered outside the state of Florida, you will not need a full license, but there are still steps you need to take to legally work as a tattoo artist in the state.

1. You must have completed a training course on bloodborne pathogens and communicable diseases with a passing grade of at least 70%. A course taken outside the state of Florida may qualify, but you will need to check with the DOH to make sure. If not, you will need to take an approved course, such as the one offered on this site, and pass with at least a 70% score. A certificate of completion will need to be submitted to the DOH as part of your application.
2. Submit a completed Application for Guest Tattoo Artist Registration (PDF).
3. Along with the application, send in the necessary $35.00 fee and a copy of a government-issued ID with your age or date of birth on it, to certify you are at least 18 years old.
4. Send proof of an active tattoo license, registration, or certification from outside Florida.

Once you have your registration, keep a copy with you whenever you provide any tattoo service. Important to note: a guest registration is valid for 14 consecutive days in Florida.
